LUDGERSHALL PLAY AREA

GRAND OPENING

Sunday 11th May 2008

Following countless fund raising events, numerous nights burning the midnight oil completing Grant Application forms and asking WREN (Waste Management Environmental), Awards for All (Lottery) and AVDC for funding grants, the accumulation of hard work, sweat and an awful lot of cajoling for help with maintenance, grass cutting and  general brawn, the day finally arrived.

The kids were restless; the closely guarded secret of the Celebrity had been spilled! Parents were blurry eyed due to lack of sleep from small people being too excited to sleep and awake too early, wondering how ‘He’ was going to arrive?

The secret was spilled when Colin Baker the 6th Dr Who pulled up onto the side of the village green in his convertible sports car, well even the Tardis has 1 day a week rest! After all David Tennett is currently tearing around the galaxies fighting monsters of all kinds; even some that the 6th Dr Who had encountered!

The weather was glorious, the skies blue, the sun shining, with just the right amount of breeze, to carry the smell of the roasting pig to tempt taste buds! all against the backdrop of melodic harmonies from the jazz band.

Following speeches and the customary cutting of ribbons and cakes, Colin Baker spent time signing Dr Who memorabilia for the kids and catching up with old friends! As former resident of the village in the ‘80’s there was a lot of talking to do!

The afternoon lazily passed by, music playing, flowing drinks and succulent food, with old and new friendships being kindled.

As members of the Play Area Committee; we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Colin Baker for giving up his Sunday afternoon, Jim Goss and his band of willing helpers who moved straw bales and marquees, both before and after the event. Tony Canon’s chefs’ skills; and all who supported fund raising events over the last 3 years and most of all; those who attended what was a PEFECT DAY!
